Branislav Ivanović, born on February 22, 1984, is a distinguished Serbian former professional footballer renowned for his versatility as a defender, primarily excelling as a right-back. His football journey commenced at his hometown club, FK Srem, before he made a significant move to OFK Beograd in January 2004, marking the beginning of his ascent in the sport.
In 2006, Ivanović transitioned to Lokomotiv Moscow in the Russian Premier League, where he spent two fruitful seasons, clinching his first major trophy, the 2007 Russian Cup. His career took a pivotal turn in January 2008 when he signed with Chelsea for a fee of twelve million pounds. During his tenure at Chelsea, he achieved remarkable success, securing nine major honors, including three Premier League titles, three FA Cups, one League Cup, the UEFA Champions League, and the UEFA Europa League. With 377 appearances and 34 goals, he stands as one of the club's most celebrated defenders, second only to John Terry in goals scored.
Ivanović's international career is equally impressive. He earned his first cap for Serbia and Montenegro in June 2005 and went on to become Serbia's most capped player, amassing over 100 caps and netting 13 goals. He represented his nation at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, marking Serbia's debut as an independent country in international tournaments. Appointed captain in 2012, he led the team until just before the 2018 FIFA World Cup, where he further solidified his legacy as the most capped player in Serbian history with 105 matches played.
After a successful stint at Chelsea, Ivanović returned to Russia in February 2017, joining Zenit on a free transfer. He later returned to the Premier League with West Bromwich Albion in 2020, concluding his professional career at the end of the 2020–21 season.
