Brenda Andrews

Brenda Jean Andrews is a distinguished Canadian academic and researcher, renowned for her expertise in systems biology and molecular genetics. Her groundbreaking studies on cell cycle-regulated transcription and protein kinase function in yeast have significantly advanced the field, establishing her as a pioneer in genetic research.

In 2015, Andrews co-led a remarkable initiative at the University of Toronto's Donnelly Centre, where her team created the first fully detailed protein map of a cell. This ambitious project, which involved data collection from twenty million cells, aimed to enhance research on cancer cells by illustrating the intricate locations of proteins within a cell.

Currently serving as a University Professor in the Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research and the Department of Molecular Genetics at the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine, Andrews also directs Andrews Lab. Her research focuses on the complexity of gene interactions, shedding light on how a single gene can influence multiple others.

In recognition of her exceptional contributions to the field, Andrews was named a University Professor in 2017, the highest faculty honor at the University of Toronto.
