Brett Lunger

Brett Lunger, born on November fourteenth, nineteen forty-five, is an American racecar driver whose career in Formula One spanned four seasons. He made his debut in nineteen seventy-five, participating in forty-three Grands Prix but did not score any championship points. Lunger's journey in racing began with the Hesketh team alongside the renowned James Hunt, and he later drove for Surtees in nineteen seventy-six.

Educated at the Holderness School and Princeton University, Lunger was a political science major who left Princeton after three years to serve in Vietnam. His academic pursuits included a thesis on U.S. policy in Southeast Asia, which was challenged by the Gulf of Tonkin Incident. After his service as a U.S. Marine lieutenant, he returned to racing, primarily in privateer cars funded by his family's wealth.

His mother, Jane du Pont Lunger, was an heiress to the Du Pont family fortune and a notable racehorse breeder, which provided Lunger with the financial backing to pursue his racing ambitions. In nineteen seventy-seven, he began the season with a year-old March 761 but transitioned to a McLaren M23 after three races. The following year, he continued with the McLaren M23 and experimented with an M26, before concluding his Formula One career with a one-off drive for Ensign.

Beyond his racing achievements, Lunger is remembered for his bravery during the nineteen seventy-six Nürburgring incident, where he helped rescue fellow driver Niki Lauda from his burning Ferrari, showcasing his character both on and off the track.
