Brian Eno

Brian Eno, born on May 15, 1948, in Suffolk, is a multifaceted English artist renowned for his groundbreaking contributions to ambient music and electronica. A self-proclaimed 'non-musician', Eno has redefined contemporary music through his innovative concepts and approaches, making him one of the most influential figures in popular music. His career took a significant turn when he joined the glam rock band Roxy Music in 1971, where he served as the synthesiser player and recorded two albums before departing in 1973.

Eno's solo career began with the release of his rock-oriented album, Here Come the Warm Jets, in 1974. He further explored minimal music with his influential works, Discreet Music in 1975 and Ambient 1: Music for Airports in 1978, the latter of which coined the term 'ambient music'. Throughout the 1970s, Eno collaborated with a diverse range of artists, including Robert Wyatt, David Bowie, and David Byrne, while also establishing himself as a sought-after producer for bands like Talking Heads and U2.

In addition to his musical endeavors, Eno has ventured into various other media, including sound installations and writing. He co-developed Oblique Strategies, a creative tool featuring aphorisms to inspire artistic thought. His installations have graced notable locations, such as the sails of the Sydney Opera House in 2009 and the Lovell Telescope at Jodrell Bank in 2016. Eno's commitment to humanitarian causes is evident in his political activism, which includes raising awareness about the Gaza Strip and advocating for climate crisis solutions.

As a founding member of the Long Now Foundation, Eno continues to engage with pressing global issues, including opposing the Conservative Party and Brexit, and advocating for freedom for Julian Assange. His dedication to these causes culminated in September 2025, when he signed an open pledge with Film Workers for Palestine, vowing not to collaborate with Israeli film institutions implicated in genocide and apartheid against the Palestinian people.
