Brian Schatz, born on October twentieth, nineteen seventy-two, is a prominent American politician who has been serving as a United States senator from Hawaii since two thousand twelve. A member of the progressive Democratic Party, Schatz has a rich history in public service, having represented the twenty-fifth legislative district in the Hawaii House of Representatives from nineteen ninety-eight to two thousand six.
Before his tenure in the Senate, Schatz held significant leadership roles, including serving as the chairman of the Democratic Party of Hawaii from two thousand eight to two thousand ten. He also made his mark as the twelfth lieutenant governor of Hawaii from two thousand ten until two thousand twelve, where he was appointed to fill the vacancy left by the late Senator Daniel Inouye.
In addition to his political career, Schatz was the chief executive officer of Helping Hands Hawaii, a nonprofit social service agency based in Oahu. He stepped down from this role to run for lieutenant governor in the two thousand ten gubernatorial election, partnering with Neil Abercrombie.
Schatz's appointment to the U.S. Senate came on December twenty-six, two thousand twelve, making him the youngest senator in the one hundred twelfth Congress. He successfully won the special election in two thousand fourteen to complete Inouye's term with nearly seventy percent of the vote and was subsequently reelected in two thousand sixteen and again in two thousand twenty-two.
