Brian Sims, born on September sixteenth, nineteen seventy-eight, is a prominent American attorney and politician known for his advocacy in LGBT civil rights. As a member of the Democratic Party, he served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 182nd district from two thousand thirteen until two thousand twenty-two, making history as the first openly gay elected state legislator in Pennsylvania.
During his tenure, Sims was a passionate advocate for equality and social justice, winning re-election on November sixth, two thousand eighteen. His commitment to public service extended beyond the legislature, as he sought the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania in two thousand twenty-two, where he garnered twenty-five percent of the vote, finishing in second place.
