Briana Scurry

Briana Scurry, born on September seventh, nineteen seventy-one, is a celebrated American retired soccer goalkeeper and coach. Renowned for her exceptional skills, she was the starting goalkeeper for the United States women's national soccer team during several prestigious tournaments, including the 1995 World Cup, where the team secured third place, and the triumphant 1999 World Cup, where they emerged as champions. Scurry also played pivotal roles in the 1996 and 2004 Summer Olympics, both of which resulted in gold medals for the U.S. team.

Throughout her illustrious career, Scurry made a remarkable total of one hundred seventy-three international appearances, ranking her as the second most capped female soccer goalkeeper and the fifteenth among all American female players. She was a founding member of the Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA), where she served as the starting goalkeeper for the Atlanta Beat from two thousand one to two thousand three.

In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the sport, Scurry was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame on August third, two thousand seventeen, making history as the first woman goalkeeper and the first black woman to receive this honor. Beyond her athletic achievements, she is openly gay and married Chryssa Zizos, the CEO of Live Wire Strategic Communications, LLC, on June first, two thousand eighteen.

In two thousand twenty-two, Scurry published her best-selling memoir, 'My Greatest Save,' which offers an intimate look at her life and career. Additionally, she was the subject of 'The Only,' a feature-length documentary released by CBS in the same year, further chronicling her inspiring journey.
