Bruce Gilley, born on July twenty-first, nineteen sixty-six, is a distinguished Canadian-American political scientist and economist. He serves as a professor of political science and is the director of the PhD program in Public Affairs and Policy at the Mark O. Hatfield School of Government at Portland State University.
In addition to his academic roles, Gilley is the founder and president of the Oregon Association of Scholars. He is also a member of the Heterodox Academy and a founding signatory of the Oregon Academic Faculty Pledge on Freedom, reflecting his commitment to academic integrity and freedom of thought.
Gilley gained international recognition for his provocative and controversial article titled "The Case for Colonialism," which was published in an advance online edition of the scientific journal Third World Quarterly in two thousand seventeen. The article sparked significant debate and led to the resignation of fifteen members from the journal's board, highlighting the contentious nature of his work.
