Bruce Guthro, born on August 31, 1961, was a celebrated Canadian singer-songwriter hailing from Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. Renowned for his captivating voice and guitar skills, he made a significant mark in the music industry as both a solo artist and the lead vocalist for the Scottish Celtic rock band Runrig from 1998 until the band's retirement in 2018.

Throughout his illustrious career, Guthro garnered several East Coast Music Awards (ECMAs) and was instrumental in hosting and conceptualizing the Canadian television show Songwriters Circle. This platform showcased a variety of talented musicians, including notable guests such as Jim Cuddy, Colin James, and Alan Doyle of Great Big Sea.

In addition to his musical achievements, Guthro was a proud father to musicians Dylan and Jodi Guthro. He played a pivotal role in his son Dylan's career, co-producing the award-winning debut album All That's True in two thousand twelve and co-writing five of its songs.

Sadly, Bruce Guthro passed away from cancer on September 5, 2023, just five days after celebrating his sixty-second birthday. His contributions to the music industry, Canadian culture, and philanthropy were recognized posthumously when he was appointed a member of the Order of Nova Scotia on October 4, 2023.
