His journey began in a working-class family, where he initially pursued fine art and even taught at a secondary school before his passion for music took center stage.

In 1970, Ferry gathered a group of friends and acquaintances in London to form Roxy Music, taking on the role of lead singer and primary songwriter. The band's self-titled debut album, released in 1972, showcased a rich tapestry of sounds that reflected Ferry's eclectic musical interests, leading to immediate international acclaim. Their follow-up album, For Your Pleasure, released in 1973, further solidified their unique sound and visual identity, establishing Ferry as a cultural icon.

Ferry's solo career began in parallel with Roxy Music, marked by the release of These Foolish Things in 1973, which popularized the concept of contemporary musicians covering standard songs. This was a significant departure from his work with the band. He continued to release successful albums, including Another Time, Another Place in 1974, while Roxy Music produced a trilogy of albums—Stranded, Country Life, and Siren—between 1973 and 1975, broadening their international appeal.

In 1983, after the success of their best-selling album Avalon, Ferry disbanded Roxy Music to focus on his solo endeavors. His subsequent album, Boys and Girls, released in 1985, reached number one in the UK and featured hit singles like 'Slave to Love' and 'Don't Stop the Dance.' Over the years, he has released several more albums, including Bête Noire and Taxi, both of which achieved Top 10 status in the UK.

Ferry's prolific songwriting includes numerous cover versions, notably Dylanesque, an album dedicated to Bob Dylan's works. With over thirty million albums sold worldwide, his impact on music is undeniable.
