Byron MacDonald, born on July twenty-third, nineteen fifty, is a distinguished swimming coach and former competitive swimmer who has made significant contributions to the sport in Canada. He represented Canada at the 1972 Summer Olympics held in Munich, Germany, where he showcased his talent in the men's 100-metre butterfly, finishing sixth in the final. Additionally, he participated in the preliminary heats of the 200-metre butterfly, although he did not advance to the finals.
Currently, MacDonald serves as the head coach of the Toronto Titans in the International Swimming League and is the founder and board president of the Toronto Swim Club. His leadership has been instrumental in shaping the future of swimming in Canada, particularly through his role as the head coach of the Toronto Varsity Blues swim teams at the University of Toronto.
Under his guidance, the Varsity Blues have achieved remarkable success, clinching twenty-four Canadian Interuniversity Sport USports National Championships, including a notable sweep of both the women's and men's team competitions during the twenty-fifteen to twenty-sixteen season. Furthermore, MacDonald has led the teams to secure sixty Conference (OUA) titles, with thirty-two for men and twenty-eight for women.
