Călin Peter Netzer

Călin Peter Netzer is a distinguished Romanian film director, screenwriter, and producer, celebrated for his impactful contributions to cinema. Born on May first, nineteen seventy-five, in Petroșani, he hails from a family with Romanian and German roots. In nineteen eighty-three, Netzer emigrated to West Germany with his family, marking the beginning of a journey that would eventually lead him back to his homeland.

After spending several years abroad, Netzer returned to Romania in nineteen ninety-four to pursue his passion for film. He enrolled at the Academy of Theatre and Film in Bucharest, where he honed his skills in film direction. His debut feature film, Maria, released in two thousand three, garnered critical acclaim, winning the Special Prize of the Jury at the Locarno International Film Festival, among other accolades.

Netzer's most notable work, Poziția copilului (Child's Pose), premiered in two thousand thirteen and earned him the prestigious Golden Bear at the sixty-third Berlin International Film Festival. This film not only solidified his reputation as a leading filmmaker but also represented Romania as the entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the eighty-sixth Academy Awards.
