Can Dündar, born on June sixteenth, nineteen sixty-one, is a prominent Turkish journalist, columnist, and documentarian. He served as the editor-in-chief of the center-left Cumhuriyet newspaper until August two thousand sixteen. His career took a dramatic turn in November two thousand fifteen when he was arrested following the publication of footage that revealed the Turkish State Intelligence MİT sending weapons to Syrian Islamist fighters.

Recognized as one of the most influential figures in Turkish media, Dündar has contributed to various newspapers and produced numerous television programs for both state-owned TRT and private channels such as CNN Türk and NTV. He is also a prolific author, having published over twenty books throughout his career.

Dündar's commitment to press freedom has earned him several accolades, including the International Press Freedom Award from the Committee to Protect Journalists. In two thousand sixteen, he and his colleague Erdem Gül received the Prize for the Freedom and Future of the Media from the Leipzig Media Foundation, a key partner of the European Centre for Press and Media Freedom.

Since June two thousand sixteen, Dündar has been living in exile in Germany, where an arrest warrant remains active against him in Turkey. Currently, he serves as the editor-in-chief of #ÖZGÜRÜZ, a web radio station operated by the nonprofit newsroom CORRECTIV. Additionally, he is recognized as one of the twenty-five leading figures on the Information and Democracy Commission initiated by Reporters Without Borders.
