Carl Westergren

Carl Westergren, born on October thirteenth, nineteen ninety-five, was a remarkable Swedish amateur wrestler whose athletic prowess shone brightly in the early twentieth century. Competing in the Summer Olympics of 1920, 1924, 1928, and 1932, he made a significant mark in the world of Greco-Roman wrestling, securing gold medals in three of those events: 1920, 1924, and 1932. His versatility was further demonstrated in 1924 when he also participated in freestyle wrestling, finishing in sixth place.

In addition to his Olympic success, Westergren achieved notable accolades on the world stage, winning the world middleweight title in 1922. His dominance in European wrestling was evident as he clinched three European titles across various weight classes: middleweight in 1925, light-heavyweight in 1930, and unlimited in 1931. These accomplishments solidified his reputation as one of the leading wrestlers of his time.

Outside the wrestling mat, Westergren led a humble life as a bus driver, showcasing his dedication to both his sport and his profession. He was also influenced by his family, with two elder brothers who trained in wrestling, fostering a competitive spirit that would propel him to greatness. In his later years, he developed a passion for pigeon breeding, reflecting his diverse interests beyond athletics.
