Carle Hessay

Hans Karl Hesse, who later became known as Carle Hessay, was born on November 30, 1911, in Germany. His journey as an artist began when he immigrated to Canada in 1927, where he would eventually leave a significant mark on the Canadian art scene. Hessay's artistic education took him to prestigious art academies in Paris and Dresden, where he honed his skills and developed his unique style.

During World War II, Hessay served as a soldier in the Canadian forces, an experience that would undoubtedly influence his later works. After the war, he settled in British Columbia, specifically in the town of Langley, where he rekindled his passion for painting in the 1950s. His early works were characterized by Romantic realism, but as his career progressed, the influence of Expressionism became increasingly evident.
