Carlo Oriani

Carlo Oriani, born on November fifth, eighteen eighty-eight, was a distinguished Italian professional road racing cyclist. His career was marked by remarkable achievements, with the pinnacle being his overall victory in the prestigious Giro d'Italia in nineteen thirteen.

Oriani's life took a tragic turn during World War I. He displayed immense bravery during the Battle of Caporetto, where he dove into the frigid waters of the Tagliamento river to rescue a fellow soldier. Unfortunately, this act of heroism led to him contracting pneumonia.
