Carlos Batres, born on April 2, 1968, is a distinguished Guatemalan football referee known for his significant contributions to the sport. Since joining FIFA on January 1, 1996, he has officiated numerous international matches, showcasing his expertise on the global stage.

Batres made his international debut on October 27, 1996, during a World Cup qualifier between Panama and Canada. His career reached new heights when he officiated at the 2002 FIFA World Cup, where he presided over the Group A match between Denmark and Senegal, as well as the second round match between Germany and Paraguay.

In addition to his World Cup appearances, Batres was preselected as a referee for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Despite facing personal tragedy with the passing of his mother just days before, he demonstrated remarkable professionalism by officiating the match between Algeria and Slovenia on June 13, 2010.
