Throughout his career, he showcased his ability to play as a forward, winger, and attacking midfielder, making significant contributions to every team he represented.

Vela's journey began at Guadalajara, where his remarkable talent was evident as he finished as the top scorer at the two thousand five FIFA U-17 World Championship. This achievement caught the attention of several European clubs, leading to his transfer to Premier League side Arsenal in the same year. His time at Arsenal included loan spells at Salamanca, Osasuna, and West Bromwich Albion, but it was at Real Sociedad, where he settled in two thousand eleven, that he truly flourished. Over six years, he made two hundred fifty appearances and netted seventy-three goals, earning a reputation as one of the best foreign players in the club's history.
