Carol W. Greider

Carol W. Greider, born on April fifteenth, nineteen sixty-one, is a distinguished American molecular biologist and Nobel laureate. Currently, she serves as a Distinguished Professor of Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where her research continues to influence the field of genetics.

Greider's groundbreaking work began in nineteen eighty-four when she discovered the enzyme telomerase while pursuing her graduate studies under the mentorship of Elizabeth Blackburn at the University of California, Berkeley. This pivotal discovery has had a profound impact on our understanding of chromosome biology.

Her pioneering research on telomeres, the protective caps at the ends of chromosomes, has revealed critical insights into cellular aging and cancer.
