Caroline Louisa Daly, born on December sixth, eighteen thirty-two, was a talented Canadian painter hailing from Lower Canada. Her artistic contributions have gained recognition, with her works prominently displayed in the Confederation Centre Art Gallery located in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.
For many years, Daly's exquisite watercolours were misattributed to male artists, a misunderstanding that persisted until two thousand seventeen. This oversight was rectified thanks to the diligent efforts of Paige Matthie, a curator at the gallery, who undertook a comprehensive two-year historical review to establish the true provenance of Daly's art.
The investigation was sparked by a visit from one of Daly's great-grandsons, who, familiar with her work, alerted the gallery staff to the potential misattribution. Following the findings of Matthie's report, the gallery organized a public exhibition titled "Introducing Caroline Louise Daly" to celebrate her artistry and acknowledge the previous errors in attribution.
