Carrie Chapman Catt

Carrie Chapman Catt, born on January ninth, eighteen fifty-nine, was a prominent American journalist, politician, and peace activist. She is best remembered as a leading figure in the women's suffrage movement, tirelessly campaigning for the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which granted women the right to vote in nineteen twenty.

Her leadership was pivotal during her tenure as president of the National American Woman Suffrage Association, where she served from nineteen hundred to nineteen hundred four and again from nineteen fifteen to nineteen twenty. Catt's dedication to women's rights extended beyond suffrage; she founded the League of Women Voters in nineteen twenty and played a crucial role in establishing the International Woman Suffrage Alliance in nineteen hundred four, which later became known as the International Alliance of Women.

In nineteen nineteen, Catt led an army of voteless women to pressure Congress into passing the constitutional amendment that would secure their voting rights. Her efforts were instrumental in convincing state legislatures to ratify the amendment in nineteen twenty.
