Carter Hart, born on August 13, 1998, in Sherwood Park, Alberta, is a talented Canadian professional ice hockey player currently serving as a goaltender for the Vegas Golden Knights in the National Hockey League (NHL). Before joining the Golden Knights, Hart made a name for himself with the Philadelphia Flyers, where he showcased his exceptional skills and determination on the ice.
Hart's journey in hockey began at a young age, as he started training with a sport psychologist when he was just ten years old. He played minor hockey in the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League and was selected by the Everett Silvertips in the eighth round of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft. Making his debut with the Silvertips in 2014 at the age of sixteen, he quickly established himself as the team's starting goaltender by the end of that season. His impressive performance earned him accolades, including three Del Wilson Trophy wins and recognition as a two-time CHL Goaltender of the Year.
In 2016, Hart was drafted by the Flyers in the second round of the NHL entry draft, becoming the highest-drafted goaltender that year. He made history on December 18, 2018, by becoming the youngest goaltender in Flyers history to win his NHL debut. His remarkable talent continued to shine as he became the youngest Flyers goaltender to win a postseason game in 2020. Hart also represented Canada in various international tournaments, including the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament and the IIHF World U20 Championship.
However, Hart's career faced challenges when he was placed on an indefinite leave of absence in early 2024 due to charges related to an alleged sexual assault connected to the Hockey Canada scandal. He was acquitted of all charges in 2025. Following this, the Flyers did not match his minimum qualifying salary offer during restricted free agency, leading to his release. On October 16, 2025, Hart signed a professional tryout with the Vegas Golden Knights, which was converted into a two-year contract shortly thereafter.
