Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Cat Power

Charlyn Marie "Chan" Marshall, known to the world as Cat Power, was born on January 21, 1972, in Atlanta, Georgia. Raised across the southern United States, she began her musical journey in the early 1990s, performing in local bands. The name Cat Power originally belonged to her first band, but it has since become her iconic stage name as a solo artist.

In 1993, after opening for Liz Phair, Cat Power collaborated with notable musicians such as Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth and Tim Foljahn of Two Dollar Guitar. This partnership led to the recording of her debut albums, Dear Sir and Myra Lee, both released in 1995 and 1996, respectively. By 1996, she had signed with Matador Records and released What Would the Community Think, further establishing her presence in the music industry.

Her critically acclaimed album Moon Pix, released in 1998, showcased her evolving sound, blending punk, folk, and blues. This was followed by The Covers Record in 2000, a collection of uniquely arranged cover songs. After a brief hiatus, Cat Power returned in 2003 with You Are Free, featuring collaborations with renowned musicians like Dave Grohl and Eddie Vedder.

In 2006, she released The Greatest, a soul-influenced album recorded with Memphis studio musicians, and in 2008, she offered a second album of covers titled Jukebox. Her self-produced album Sun, released in 2012, marked a significant milestone, debuting at number ten on the Billboard 200, the highest-charting album of her career to date. Throughout her journey, critics have praised Cat Power for her constant evolution, with her later works incorporating elements of soul and various other genres.
