Catherine Cesarsky

Catherine Cesarsky, born on February twenty-four, nineteen forty-three, is a distinguished Argentine and French astronomer and astrophysicist. Her extensive research activities in astrophysics have significantly contributed to the field, showcasing her expertise and passion for understanding the universe.

Throughout her illustrious career, Cesarsky has held several prominent leadership positions. Notably, she served as the first female president of the International Astronomical Union from two thousand six to two thousand nine, breaking barriers for women in science. Additionally, she was the first female director general of the European Southern Observatory, a role she held from nineteen ninety-nine to two thousand seven.
