Catherine Dolgorukova, born on November second, eighteen forty-seven, was a prominent Russian aristocrat and the daughter of Prince Michael Dolgorukov and Vera Vishnevskaya. Her noble lineage set the stage for a life intertwined with the highest echelons of Russian society.
As a lady-in-waiting, Catherine captured the attention of Tsar Alexander II, becoming his long-time mistress. Their relationship blossomed into a morganatic marriage on July eighteenth, eighteen eighty, shortly after the death of the Tsar's first wife, Marie of Hesse and by Rhine. This union, which took place on July sixth in the old style calendar, was marked by the birth of four children, although one tragically passed away in infancy.
Upon her marriage, Catherine was bestowed with the title of Princess Yurievskaya, a recognition of her unique position within the imperial family. However, her life took a tragic turn when Tsar Alexander II was assassinated on March thirteenth, eighteen eighty-one, leaving her a widow and forever altering the course of her life.
