Cathy Jean Ferguson, born on July 22, 1948, is a distinguished American swimmer who made her mark in the world of competitive swimming. Known for her exceptional talent, she represented the Los Angeles Athletic Club and achieved remarkable success during her athletic career. Cathy is celebrated as a two-time Olympic gold medalist, having competed in the 1964 Olympic Games held in Tokyo, Japan.
At the Tokyo Olympics, Cathy showcased her prowess in the pool by winning the gold medal in the women's 100-meter backstroke. Additionally, she contributed to the U.S. team's victory in the women's 4×100-meter medley relay, securing another gold medal and solidifying her status as one of the top swimmers of her time.
After her illustrious swimming career, Cathy pursued higher education and earned a Doctorate from the U.S. International University in San Diego. She dedicated twenty years of her life to academia as a Professor, Coach, and Director of Aquatics at California State University, Long Beach. Her expertise also led her to serve as the director of Sports Medicine at Anaheim Memorial Hospital and as the CEO for Girl Scouts of Central California.
