Celâl Şengör

Celâl Şengör, born on March twenty-four, nineteen fifty-five, is a distinguished Turkish geologist and academic known for his extensive contributions to the field of geological engineering. He has dedicated a significant part of his career to teaching and research at Istanbul Technical University, where he has now retired from the faculty.

Throughout his illustrious career, Şengör has been recognized as a foreign member of several prestigious academies, including the American Philosophical Society and Academia Europaea, which he joined in nineteen ninety. His accolades also include membership in the United States National Academy of Sciences, which he achieved in two thousand, and the Russian Academy of Sciences, among others.

In addition to his memberships, Şengör has been honored with the Gustav-Steinmann-Medaille, the highest distinction awarded by the Geologische Vereinigung e.V., underscoring his significant impact on geological research and education.
