Cem Özdemir, born on December twenty-first, nineteen sixty-five, is a prominent German politician and environmentalist. He made history by serving as the Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture in Olaf Scholz's cabinet from December twenty twenty-one to May twenty twenty-five. Notably, from November twenty twenty-four to May twenty twenty-five, he also held the position of Federal Minister of Education and Research, becoming the first federal minister in Germany with Turkish ancestry.
Özdemir's political journey is marked by significant milestones. He co-chaired The Greens from two thousand eight to two thousand eighteen alongside Claudia Roth and later Simone Peter. In addition to his national roles, Özdemir served as a Member of the European Parliament from two thousand four to two thousand nine. His influence in German politics was further solidified when he and Katrin Göring-Eckardt ran as The Greens’ lead candidates in the two thousand seventeen federal election. Following his party's victory in the two thousand twenty-six Baden-Württemberg state election, he is now regarded as the designated minister-president of the state.
