Cesare Mori

Known as the "Iron Prefect" (Prefetto di Ferro), he gained notoriety for his relentless campaigns against the Sicilian Mafia in the late nineteen twenties, marking a significant turning point in the fight against organized crime in Italy.

His tenure as prefect was characterized by a vigorous approach to law enforcement, which earned him both admiration and criticism. Mori's efforts to dismantle the Mafia's influence were unprecedented, and he is often credited as the first to effectively challenge their power within the country. His legacy was further immortalized in the nineteen seventy-seven film "I Am the Law," directed by Pasquale Squitieri, which dramatizes his battle against the Mafia during his time in Sicily.

As a self-identified Fascist, Mori expressed his strong support for the National Fascist Party and Benito Mussolini in his writings. He believed that the arrival of Fascism was pivotal in overcoming the pervasive sense of lethargy that had gripped the Italian populace. In his own words, he noted that the previous efforts to combat crime had faltered due to a collective malaise, which he felt was dispelled by the decisive actions of Mussolini.
