Charibert of Laon

Charibert of Laon, who lived during the late seventh century, was a prominent aristocrat and the Count of Laon. Born on October twenty-fourth, six hundred ninety-six, he played a significant role in the lineage that would lead to one of history's most notable figures, Charlemagne. Charibert was the father of Bertrada of Laon, Charlemagne's mother, thus establishing a vital connection to the Carolingian dynasty.

His maternal lineage is particularly noteworthy, as Charibert's mother, Bertrada of Prüm, is the only parent documented in contemporary records. Together, they signed the foundation act of the Abbey of Prüm in the year seven hundred twenty. This act not only highlights their influence but also their commitment to the church and community.

In the same year, Charibert and his mother made a significant donation to the Abbey of Echternach, further solidifying their status and contributions to religious institutions of the time.
