Charles Emmanuel II

Charles Emmanuel II, born on June twentieth, sixteen thirty-four, was a prominent figure in the history of the Savoyard states. He ascended to the title of Duke of Savoy at the tender age of four, following the death of his father. His early years were spent under the regency of his mother, Christine of France, until he reached the age of fourteen in sixteen forty-eight.

Throughout his reign, which lasted until his death in sixteen seventy-five, Charles Emmanuel II was not only a ruler but also an avid art collector. His passion for the arts contributed to the cultural richness of his domain, enhancing the legacy of the Savoyard states.

In addition to his ducal title, he held several other noble titles, including Marquis of Saluzzo and Count of Aosta, Geneva, Moriana, and Nice. He also claimed the thrones of Cyprus, Jerusalem, and Armenia, reflecting his ambition and the expansive nature of his rule.

Upon his passing in sixteen seventy-five, his second wife, Marie Jeanne Baptiste of Savoy-Nemours, took on the role of regent for their young son, who was only nine years old at the time. This transition marked a significant moment in the history of the Savoyard states, as the legacy of Charles Emmanuel II continued through his family.
