Charles III of Naples

Charles III of Naples, known as Charles the Small or Charles of Durazzo, was born in the year one thousand three hundred forty-five. His reign as King of Naples and titular King of Jerusalem spanned from one thousand three hundred eighty-two until his death in one thousand three hundred eighty-six. Additionally, he held the title of King of Hungary for a brief period from one thousand three hundred eighty-five to one thousand three hundred eighty-six.

In one thousand three hundred eighty-one, Charles established the chivalric Order of the Ship, a significant contribution to the cultural and political landscape of his time. His leadership was marked by a series of strategic decisions that aimed to strengthen his rule and expand his influence across the region.

Charles's ascension to the Principality of Achaea occurred in one thousand three hundred eighty-three, following the death of James of Baux. This acquisition further solidified his position in the Mediterranean and showcased his ambitions beyond the borders of Naples.
