Charles M. Rice

Charles Moen Rice, born on August twenty-fifth, nineteen fifty-two, is a distinguished American virologist renowned for his groundbreaking research on the hepatitis C virus. He serves as a professor of virology at the prestigious Rockefeller University and holds adjunct professorships at both Cornell University and Washington University School of Medicine. At the time he received the Nobel Prize, he was a faculty member at Rockefeller University.

Throughout his illustrious career, Rice has been recognized for his significant contributions to the field of virology. He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and a member of the National Academy of Sciences. His leadership skills were evident when he served as the president of the American Society for Virology from two thousand two to two thousand three.

In two thousand sixteen, Rice was honored with the Lasker-DeBakey Clinical Medical Research Award, which he shared with Ralf F. W. Bartenschlager and Michael J. Sofia. His most notable achievement came in two thousand twenty when he, along with Michael Houghton and Harvey J. Alter, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their pivotal discovery of the hepatitis C virus.
