Charles Michel

Charles Michel, born on December twenty-first, nineteen seventy-five, is a prominent Belgian politician and lawyer. He made history by becoming the youngest Prime Minister of Belgium when he was sworn in on October eleventh, two thousand fourteen, leading a coalition government that included the Francophone liberal Reformist Movement (MR), N-VA, OVLD, and CD&V.

Michel's political journey began in two thousand seven when he was appointed Minister of Development Cooperation at the age of thirty-one. His leadership skills shone through when he took the helm of the MR in February two thousand eleven, guiding the party to a significant position as the third-largest in the Chamber of Representatives during the two thousand fourteen federal elections.

However, his tenure as Prime Minister faced challenges, notably when the government collapsed in December two thousand eighteen due to disagreements over the Global Compact for Migration. Following this, Michel served in a caretaker role until the two thousand nineteen federal elections, where he remained in office during coalition negotiations despite the MR losing seats.

On July second, two thousand nineteen, Michel was appointed as the President of the European Council, officially taking over from Donald Tusk on November twenty-ninth, two thousand nineteen. He has since played a crucial role in European politics, announcing in January two thousand twenty-four his intention to step down to run in the upcoming European Parliament election, only to later decide to complete his current mandate.
