Charley Borah

Charley Borah, born on November first, nineteen oh five, was a remarkable American athlete and dentist, best known for his exceptional achievements in track and field. A graduate of Phillips Academy in Andover, he made a significant mark in athletics during the late 1920s, showcasing his speed and agility on the track.

In nineteen twenty-six, Borah clinched the AAU championship in the one hundred yard dash, followed by victories in the two hundred twenty yard event in nineteen twenty-seven and the two hundred meter race in nineteen twenty-eight. His prowess continued at the University of Southern California, where he triumphed in the IC4A championships for both the one hundred yard and two hundred twenty yard races in nineteen twenty-seven.

At the Amsterdam Olympics in nineteen twenty-eight, Borah reached the quarterfinals in the one hundred meter event and played a crucial role in the American four by one hundred meter relay team, running the third leg. His team not only secured the gold medal but also equalled the world record with a time of forty-one seconds flat in the final.

Throughout his athletic career, Borah equalled Charley Paddock's world record in the one hundred yard dash, achieving a time of nine point six seconds on two occasions, in nineteen twenty-six and nineteen twenty-seven. After a successful career in athletics, he later pursued dentistry and eventually passed away in Phoenix, Arizona, in nineteen eighty.
