Chen Qiushi, born on September nineteenth, nineteen eighty-five, is a prominent Chinese lawyer, activist, and citizen journalist. He gained recognition for his courageous reporting during the 2019–20 Hong Kong protests and his critical coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly highlighting the government's response to the crisis.
On February sixth, two thousand twenty, Chen went missing after he reported on the COVID-19 outbreak in Wuhan. His disappearance raised alarms among human rights advocates and media freedom organizations, who expressed skepticism regarding the Chinese government's claims that he was detained for quarantine purposes. Despite the government's assurances to his family and friends, many believed that his detention was politically motivated.
After a prolonged absence, Chen re-emerged in September two thousand twenty-one. However, he provided no explanation for the circumstances surrounding his disappearance, leaving many questions unanswered about his treatment during that time.
