Cheryl Hardcastle

Cheryl Hardcastle, born on November twentieth, nineteen sixty-one, is a prominent Canadian journalist and politician who made her mark as a member of Parliament in the House of Commons for the Windsor—Tecumseh electoral district. She was first elected during the two thousand fifteen Canadian federal election, representing the New Democratic Party.

During her tenure in the forty-second Canadian Parliament, Hardcastle was appointed by NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair as the party's critic for Sports and Persons with Disabilities. Following Mulcair's leadership transition to Jagmeet Singh, her responsibilities expanded to include International Human Rights, where she served as Vice-Chair of the Subcommittee for International Human Rights.

Despite her efforts, Hardcastle faced a challenging re-election bid in the two thousand nineteen federal election, where she finished second in a surprising upset against Liberal candidate Irek Kusmierczyk. Throughout her political career, she introduced a private member bill, C-348, aimed at streamlining the process for persons with disabilities seeking federal grants and benefits, although it was ultimately defeated by the Liberal majority.
