Chester Newton

Chester Newton, born on September eighteenth, nineteen oh three, was a remarkable amateur wrestler who represented the United States at the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris, France. Competing in the featherweight division, he earned a silver medal, showcasing his exceptional talent and determination. In a memorable final match, he faced his fellow Oregon State University alumnus and teammate, Robin Reed, who was the only wrestler to defeat Newton during the Olympic Trials held in New York.

During his time at Oregon State, Newton was not only a dedicated athlete but also an active member of the Sigma Pi fraternity and the cross country team. After completing his collegiate wrestling eligibility, he transitioned into a coaching role at the college, where he continued to inspire and mentor young wrestlers. Following his graduation, he took on the role of a teacher in Tillamook, Oregon, further contributing to his community.

Newton's legacy in the world of sports was recognized when he was inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in nineteen eighty and later into the Oregon State University Athletic Hall of Fame in nineteen ninety-one. His contributions to wrestling and education left a lasting impact on those he encountered.

Tragically, Chester Newton's life was cut short when he died in a car accident in Oregon City, Oregon, in nineteen sixty-six, at the age of sixty-two. His achievements and dedication to the sport continue to be remembered and celebrated.
