Chiara Badano

Chiara Badano, affectionately known as "Luce" or "light," was born on October 29, 1971, in Italy. From a young age, she demonstrated a profound commitment to her faith, joining the Focolare Movement at the tender age of nine. This early involvement shaped her spiritual journey and connected her with a community dedicated to living out the principles of love and unity.

At the age of sixteen, Chiara faced a life-altering challenge when she was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma, a painful form of bone cancer. Despite the immense physical suffering she endured during her two-year battle with the disease, Chiara remained a beacon of hope and faith for those around her. Her unwavering spirit and positive outlook inspired many, as she continued to live her life with purpose and joy.

Chiara's journey came to a close on October 7, 1990, when she passed away after her courageous fight against cancer. Her legacy, however, did not end with her death. On September 25, 2010, she was beatified by the Roman Catholic Church at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Divine Love in Rome, a testament to her virtuous life and the impact she had on others.

Today, Chiara Badano is remembered not only for her struggles but also for her profound faith and the light she brought into the lives of many. Her feast day is celebrated annually on her birthday, October 29, allowing her story to continue inspiring new generations.
