Chibly Langlois

Chibly Langlois, born on November twenty-ninth, nineteen fifty-eight, is a distinguished Haitian Catholic prelate who has made significant contributions to the Church in Haiti. Since two thousand eleven, he has served as the Bishop of Les Cayes, a role that underscores his commitment to his faith and community.

In addition to his responsibilities as a bishop, Langlois holds the esteemed position of president of the Haitian Bishops’ Conference. His leadership has been pivotal in addressing the spiritual and social needs of the Haitian people, particularly in times of crisis.

On February twenty-second, two thousand fourteen, Pope Francis elevated Langlois to the College of Cardinals, marking a historic moment as he became the first and only Haitian cardinal in history. Notably, he was the sole new cardinal elevated during the February two thousand fourteen consistory who was not an archbishop, highlighting his unique role within the Church.
