Chloe x Halle is an American alternative R&B duo formed by sisters Chloe and Halle Bailey, who hail from Mableton, Georgia. The sisters began their artistic journey at a young age, taking on minor acting roles before making the pivotal move to Los Angeles in 2012. It was here that they started sharing their musical talents through YouTube, where their covers caught the attention of none other than Beyoncé, who became their mentor and later signed them to her label, Parkwood Entertainment.
In 2016, Chloe x Halle released their debut EP, Sugar Symphony, followed by their mixtape, The Two of Us, in 2017. Their unique sound and captivating performances led to a significant breakthrough when they starred in the popular sitcom Grown-ish from 2018 to 2022. This exposure helped propel their music career, culminating in the release of their debut album, The Kids Are Alright, in 2018.
The album earned the duo two Grammy Award nominations for Best New Artist and Best Urban Contemporary Album, marking a significant milestone in their career. In 2020, they followed up with their critically acclaimed second studio album, Ungodly Hour, which garnered three additional Grammy nominations, including Best Progressive R&B Album and Best R&B Song for their hit single, 'Do It'.
'Do It' marked a significant achievement for the duo, becoming their first song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 and the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, peaking at numbers 63 and 23, respectively. The album itself reached impressive positions on the charts, peaking at number 16 on the Billboard 200 and number 11 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, solidifying Chloe x Halle's status as rising stars in the music industry.
