Christian Albrecht Jensen

Christian Albrecht Jensen, born on June 26, 1792, was a prominent Danish portrait painter who flourished during the Golden Age of Danish Painting in the early 19th century. Over his prolific career, he created more than four hundred portraits, capturing the likenesses of many leading figures of his time.

Among his notable subjects were the celebrated writer Hans Christian Andersen, the esteemed painter Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg, the renowned sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen, the influential physicist Hans Christian Ørsted, and the significant theologian N. F. S. Grundtvig. Jensen's work not only reflects the artistic trends of his era but also serves as a historical record of the cultural luminaries of Denmark.

Despite achieving considerable commercial success, Jensen's artistry did not receive the official recognition it deserved from the contemporary artistic community. Critic Niels Lauritz Høyen notably disparaged his style, describing his paintings as 'unfinished,' which may have contributed to Jensen's relative obscurity in the annals of art history.
