Christian Atsu was a talented Ghanaian professional footballer, born on January 10, 1992. Primarily known for his skills as a winger, he also showcased versatility by playing as an attacking midfielder and left back throughout his career.
Atsu's football journey began with Porto, where he honed his skills before embarking on a loan spell at Rio Ave. In 2013, he made a significant move to Chelsea for a transfer fee of three point five million pounds. His time at Chelsea included several loan stints at clubs such as Vitesse, Everton, Bournemouth, and Málaga, allowing him to gain valuable experience in various competitive environments.
In May 2017, after a successful loan period, Atsu made a permanent transfer to Newcastle United, where he continued to impress fans and critics alike. Following the conclusion of his four-year contract, he played for Al Raed in Saudi Arabia and later joined Hatayspor in Turkey. Tragically, Atsu's life was cut short when he lost his life in the devastating Turkey–Syria earthquake in 2023 at the age of 31.
On the international stage, Atsu was a proud representative of Ghana, earning sixty-five caps between 2012 and 2019. He participated in the 2014 FIFA World Cup and four Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, where he played a pivotal role in helping Ghana secure the runner-up position in 2015. His outstanding performance during the tournament earned him both the Player of the Tournament and Goal of the Tournament awards.
