He made headlines as the 2019 world champion in the 100 meters and contributed to the United States' gold medal victory in the men's 4 × 100-meter relay. With a personal best of nine point seventy-six seconds in the 100 meters, Coleman ranks as the sixth fastest sprinter in the event's history. His prowess extends to the 200 meters, where he boasts a personal best of nineteen point eighty-five seconds.

In addition to his individual achievements, Coleman holds the world record for the indoor 60 meters with an impressive time of six point thirty-four seconds. His accolades include being the Diamond League champion in both twenty eighteen and twenty twenty-three, as well as being ranked the world number one in the men's 100 meters for three consecutive seasons: twenty seventeen, twenty eighteen, and twenty nineteen.
