Paradis first entered the political arena when he was elected in the two thousand six federal election. His early contributions included serving as parliamentary secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources, a position he held until January four, two thousand seven. Following this, he was appointed Secretary of State for Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, as well as the Rural Secretariat, marking the beginning of a series of influential roles.

On June twenty-five, two thousand eight, he was elevated to the position of Minister of Public Works and Government Services, while simultaneously retaining his responsibilities in agriculture until October of the same year. A cabinet shuffle on October thirty, two thousand eight, saw him continue in the Public Works role, and he also took on the responsibilities of Quebec Lieutenant, succeeding Lawrence Cannon.
