Christie Pearce

Christie Pearce, born on June 24, 1975, is a distinguished former professional soccer player from the United States, renowned for her exceptional skills as a defender. As the former captain of the U.S. national team, she has left an indelible mark on women's soccer, leading her team to remarkable victories on the world stage.

A three-time Olympic gold medalist, Pearce has showcased her talent in five FIFA Women's World Cup finals and four Olympic tournaments. She proudly holds championship titles from the 1999 and 2015 FIFA Women's World Cups, as well as gold medals from the Athens, Beijing, and London Olympics. Throughout her illustrious career, she consistently finished no lower than third place in every World Cup and Olympic tournament she participated in.

Pearce's professional journey began in the W-League, where she played from 1997 to 1998. She continued to make her mark in two American professional leagues, the WUSA from 2001 to 2003 and the WPS from 2009 to 2011. Notably, while playing for Sky Blue FC in 2009, she also took on the role of coach, leading the team to victory in the Women's Professional Soccer Playoffs and earning the title of WPS Sportswoman of the Year.

In a remarkable feat, Pearce became the oldest player to appear in a FIFA Women's World Cup game at the age of forty, a record that stood until Formiga competed at forty-one in 2019. With a staggering total of three hundred eleven caps, she ranks as the third-most capped player in U.S. and world history, following Kristine Lilly and Carli Lloyd.

On June 9, 2021, Pearce's contributions to the sport were recognized with her induction into the National Soccer Hall of Fame, marking a significant milestone in her illustrious career.
