Christina Koch

Christina Koch, born on January twenty-ninth, nineteen seventy-nine, is a distinguished American engineer and NASA astronaut, recognized for her remarkable contributions to space exploration. A member of the astronaut class of two thousand thirteen, she holds Bachelor of Science degrees in electrical engineering and physics, as well as a Master of Science in electrical engineering from North Carolina State University. Her academic journey was complemented by advanced studies at the Goddard Space Flight Center.

Before her illustrious career as an astronaut, Koch served as the station chief for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in American Samoa. This role showcased her leadership and expertise in managing complex scientific operations.

On March fourteenth, two thousand nineteen, Koch made her historic launch to the International Space Station as a flight engineer for Expeditions fifty-nine, sixty, and sixty-one. Notably, on October eighteenth, two thousand nineteen, she and fellow astronaut Jessica Meir achieved a significant milestone by participating in the first all-female spacewalk, where they successfully replaced a down power control unit outside the station. Koch's journey in space reached new heights when she broke the record for the longest continuous time spent in space by a woman, returning to Earth on February sixth, two thousand twenty.

Looking ahead, Koch has been selected for the Artemis II mission, which aims to circle the Moon in two thousand twenty-six. If successful, she will become the first woman to travel beyond low Earth orbit. Her groundbreaking achievements earned her a spot on Time's 100 Most Influential People list in two thousand twenty, solidifying her status as a trailblazer in the field of space exploration.
