He was the son of Félix Geoffrion and Catherine Brodeur, and he had a notable brother, Félix Geoffrion, who also pursued a career in law and politics.

Geoffrion graduated with a Bachelor of Civil Law degree from McGill College in eighteen sixty-six, the same year he was called to the bar. His legal career flourished alongside his role as a professor at McGill, where he shared his knowledge and expertise with aspiring lawyers.

In eighteen ninety-five, following the death of his brother, he was acclaimed in a by-election for the riding of Verchères. His political journey continued as he served as a Minister without Portfolio in Wilfrid Laurier's cabinet from eighteen ninety-six until his untimely death in eighteen ninety-nine, while still in office.

Geoffrion's legacy continued through his family, as his brother Victor Geoffrion was acclaimed to the seat after his passing, ensuring that the Geoffrion name remained influential in Canadian politics.
