His remarkable career took a historic turn in two thousand ten when he became the first white athlete to break the ten-second barrier in an officially timed 100 m event, a feat he accomplished on seven occasions, with three sub-ten performances in two thousand ten and four in two thousand eleven.

At just twenty years old, Lemaitre made headlines by clinching the titles in the 100 m, 200 m, and the 4 × 100 m relay at the two thousand ten European Championships, marking him as the first French sprinter to achieve this remarkable triple.
