Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Chulalongkorn

Chulalongkorn, posthumously revered as King Chulalongkorn the Great, was born on September twentieth, eighteen fifty-three. He ascended to the throne as the fifth king of Siam from the Chakri dynasty, known as Rama V, following the death of his father, King Mongkut. His reign, which lasted from eighteen sixty-eight until his passing in nineteen ten, was marked by significant modernization efforts and sweeping governmental and social reforms.

During his early years, Chulalongkorn accompanied his father to observe a solar eclipse in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province in eighteen sixty-eight. Unfortunately, both contracted malaria during this trip, leading to his father's untimely death and Chulalongkorn's unexpected rise to kingship. His reign was characterized by a commitment to maintaining Siam's independence amidst the growing influence of European colonial powers.

Chulalongkorn's leadership was pivotal during critical events such as the 1893 Franco-Siamese crisis and the Haw wars. His policies were strategically designed to safeguard Siam from the encroachment of Western empires, ensuring the nation's sovereignty. His dedication to reform and modernization earned him the affectionate title of Phra Piya Maharat, or the Great Beloved King, reflecting the deep respect and admiration he garnered from his people.
